|Sophie Lavaud is an artist in the field of interactive digital media. She has earned her Ph.D. with a thesis called “Interactive Scenographies - Interfaced Bodies and Dynamic Systems” at the University of Paris 1 in Art and Sciences of Art. Her first prioritized media she used as a visual artist, were painting and drawing whose aesthetic is the seeds of what she fully currently develops with digital media.
She, actually, holds a non-permanent tenure position as a teacher-researcher in digital interactive Art, at the university of Saint-Etienne (France). She also teaches Art and Contemporary Technologies at the Technological University of Compiègne (France) to engineers students. Associate researcher at Paragraphe Laboratory (University of Paris 8) and CIEREC lab (University of Saint-Etienne), her practical and theoretical work explores how emerging technologies and scientific approaches for computer programming such as Distributed Artificial Intelligence, can expand the traditional issues usually raised by painting.
Bearing witness to a paradigmatic shift in the economy of representation and in the field of perception due to the evolution of technoscience and its accompanying applicable computer models, she conceives artworks as the process of virtual and human elements that interact between them and with their environment by means of natural and built interfaces.
Sophie Lavaud frequently lectures on the role of technology in art and writes papers for international reviews. Her artistic work is widely shown in various exhibitions and was awarded several times.
